Musement in Venice: platform review, prices and conditions

Among the big tours-and-tickets platforms, Musement has the closest roots: a Milan joint-stock company, registered as an online travel agency and now part of the TUI travel group. In Venice it offers 235 experiences, from guided visits around St Mark’s to lagoon trips, from baroque concerts to luggage storage near the Rialto. We read its terms and compared some prices with the official ones.

Who Musement is

Musement S.p.A. is based at via Polesine 13 in Milan, VAT number 07978000961. It is an online travel agency licensed by the Lombardy Region (no. 170695), with an Allianz insurance policy listed in its terms. It has belonged to the TUI group since September 2018; according to secondary sources it was founded in Milan in 2013.

The form of the contract differs from other platforms: the terms say a purchase is a contractual offer made to Musement, which resells tickets and vouchers from museums, cultural bodies, theatres and tour operators. The terms are governed by Italian law, a practical point for Italian residents in case of a dispute. Musement also sells National Geographic-branded day tours under licence. You must be 18 or over to buy.

What it sells in Venice

The Venice page counted 235 experiences, in these main categories:

• Doge’s Palace: 33 experiences, including skip-the-line tickets for the St Mark’s Square Museums and guided visits;
• St Mark’s Square and Basilica: 44 experiences, often combined with the Doge’s Palace, the terrace or a gondola ride;
• Murano and Burano: 23 experiences, from half-day trips to tours with a glass demonstration;
• Gondolas: 17 experiences;
• Other: Vivaldi Four Seasons concerts, dinner cruises, food tours, the Leonardo interactive museum, luggage storage.

Price comparison

The site shows prices in the currency you choose; those below were read on the UK site, in pounds, on this page’s update date.

For the islands trip there is a direct alternative worth knowing: Alilaguna’s Green Line leaves from San Marco Giardinetti, calls at Murano, Torcello and Burano with about 45 minutes on each island, takes about four and a half hours and costs €25, with commentary in several languages depending on the departure. Platform trips often add a glass-furnace demonstration.

For the Doge’s Palace and the Basilica, the official channel remains the benchmark: the St Mark’s Square Museums ticket at €35, or €30 online at least 30 days ahead, and the Basilica at €10 on the Procuratoria’s site, which forbids reselling the bare ticket. Platform offers for the Basilica are therefore guided visits or entries with added services.

One detail that struck us: the editorial guide on Musement’s Venice page gave a single vaporetto ride as €7.50 and passes from €20 to €60. Current ACTV fares are €9.50 for 75 minutes and €25 to €65 for 1- to 7-day passes. For the vaporetto, trust the operator’s own fares.

How booking works

You pick a date and time, pay and receive a confirmation with the voucher; many listings state instant confirmation. Prices include VAT and you can change the display currency. Check on the listing who the supplier is and where the activity takes place: on the day, the supplier delivers the service.

Cancellations and refunds

Musement has no single rule: the supplier’s policy applies, as shown on the listing. The Venice page promotes free cancellation up to 24 hours before “on thousands of experiences”, and indeed many of the Venice offers we saw show it, but not all. Two rules from the terms worth remembering: if you don’t arrive on time for the activity there is no refund, and if you cancel a booking paid with a discount code, the refund excludes the discount.

In a dispute, besides customer service, you can turn to the European alternative dispute resolution bodies or the courts of your country of residence.

Fees

The terms include no traveller service fee, and prices shown include VAT. That is the same approach as GetYourGuide and Civitatis, and different from Tiqets, which charges a fee on some orders, and Headout, which provides for one at checkout.

Support and languages

The terms give an email address (support@musement.com), a British and an American phone number and an online help centre. Service hours are not published in the terms. The site comes in several national versions; the languages of each activity are shown on its listing.

What we like and what to watch

We like: an Italian company with a travel-agency licence and Italian law in its terms; no extra fees; a wide Venice catalogue, with clear categories for the Doge’s Palace, St Mark’s, the islands and gondolas; free cancellation on many experiences.

Watch out for: no general cancellation rule; support hours not stated; outdated practical information on the vaporetto in the Venice guide; direct alternatives at a lower price for island trips.

Who it suits

Musement suits travellers who prefer to buy from an Italian company, perhaps because they already know TUI, and who are looking for experiences such as concerts, lagoon trips or dinner cruises. For Doge’s Palace and Basilica entry and for the vaporetto, the official channel remains the starting point.

Alternatives

Civitatis has a smaller Venice catalogue, pages in Italian and English and no booking fee. GetYourGuide has the widest choice of tours and a default rule of free cancellation up to 24 hours before. All the sellers, from official bodies to guides, are on the operators page.

Verdict

Musement is a serious platform, with an Italian legal base and clear terms on fees. In Venice it offers a wide catalogue of experiences, but practical information should be checked against official sources and cancellation rules read listing by listing. For the islands and St Mark’s tickets, always compare with the operator or the official body.
